Welcome to the website of the Washingbay Green Run

Statement Saturday 6th June 2020

Running teaches us to keep moving forward, one step at a time, especially in the most painful moments. As we continue to take each of these steps together, we can begin to see the brighter path ahead of us. The postponement of the Washingbay Green Run earlier this year was a difficult decision to make at the time, however, upon reflection of the circumstances over the past number of months it really was the only option. Whilst the government roadmap for recovery issued in response to the COVID-19 crisis cannot guarantee anything, it does at least provide us with an ability to plan for later in the year. It is with optimism we are excited to announce that the Washingbay Green Run is still planned to be held in 2020, with Saturday 31st October being the carefully selected date.

As the event committee of the Washingbay Green Run, the welfare of our community & participants is always our top priority. Strategic planning continues to cater for various scenarios to ensure the safety of all race participants. Such scenarios may include staggered and categorised race times designed to preserve both the competitive and casual types of entrants that our event continues to attract. The guidance provided by the relevant authorities will be used to confirm the finer details of how our events will function safely, and we will communicate such information to you as early as possible.

The Washingbay Green Run can confirm that online registrations will remain valid for the revised date of Saturday 31st October. We do understand that some entrants may not be available for this new date, therefore our club can offer refunds upon request, albeit we will incur a fee on your behalf from Athletics NI for each cancellation which is unfortunate as a fundraising event. Our donation to our patnered charity Pieta House for this years event will also remain and we look forward to presenting them with our donations which would not be possible without you. On behalf of Pieta House, particularly during these times, we want to remind you that your support is greatly appreciated.

We will try our best to communicate this message to all online entrants via email and social media platforms, however we would be grateful of your assistance by spreading the word as best as possible. For those who were successful in registering early for WGR'20 running t-shirts, you will soon receive an email regarding delivery.

We will try our utmost to leave no stone unturned in the planning of this rescheduled event in our appreciation of your support and patience.

Yours Fiathfully,

Brendan Quinn

Now into the 5th year of the event, and with over 1500 competitors taking part in the first 4 years across 3 distances, the Green Run continues to grow year on year. Whether you are a first timer or an experienced runner our event has something for you.

The first 75 online registrants will receive a free running vest and each finisher of their respective event will receive a medal for their efforts. Trophies will be presented after each race to the 1st male and female for each distance and cash prizes will be up for grabs.

We hope to see you on the morning of Saturday 31st October.
